Math Blocks is a voxel world with the math built into the blocks. In the game world, math is useful: you measure, count, plan and trade to get shelter, tools and loot. In Math World, math is physical: numbers are matter, tens are rods you build, hundreds are flats, an array is a rectangle you lay on the ground and count. The rule the whole game is built on: kids learn best when they’re having fun, as long as there is structure too.
Levels, not grades
- Six levels, 0 to 5, roughly kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids only see levels; a grown-up sets the level in the grown-up panel, or lets it grow automatically with what the player masters.
- Level 0 is counting and comparing, with no aiming needed: press once per block and a bench counts along with you.
- The middle levels bring place value, regrouping, skip counting, money and measuring. The upper levels bring arrays, area and perimeter, fractions and volume.
How to play
- Move with W A S D, look with the mouse, mine and place blocks with the mouse buttons. The game’s own help screen lists the rest.
- Needs a keyboard and a mouse or trackpad. Chromebooks are fine.
